BANDAGES AND HOSIERY

Compression bandages and medical hosiery are a component of de-congestive lymphatic therapy (DLT). They help to reduce swelling, and maintain a more normal shape in the treatment of lymphoedema and lip oedema. Hosiery also helps support varicose veins and reduce discomfort in conditions such as arthritis.

N.B. There are various ways to do self lymphatic drainage (SLD). Tools can also be used to aid SLD such as rubber balls, soft brushes, and rollers. Ask your MLD therapist to demonstrate SLD techniques to you so that you have practical understanding & competence with them. SIMPLE LYMPHATIC MASSAGE FOR 1 ARM LYMPHOEDEMA

Below is a 5 minute video demonstrating self-lymphatic massage for single arm lymphoedema. The sequence should take you about 20 minutes if performed with all the suggested repetitions. Self-treatment twice daily is recommended. In addition, please continue with a regular exercise routine that moves your swollen arm to further improve its lymphatic function. Exercising with your medical compression hosiery on is beneficial.


SIMPLE LYMPHATIC MASSAGE FOR 2 ARM LYMPHOEDEMA

Below is a 5 minute video demonstrating self-lymphatic massage for bi-lateral arm lymphoedema. The sequence should take you about 20 minutes if performed with all the suggested repetitions. Self-treatment twice daily is recommended. In addition, please continue with a regular exercise routine that moves your swollen arm to further improve its lymphatic function. Exercising with your medical compression hosiery on is beneficial.


SIMPLE LYMPHATIC MASSAGE FOR LEG LYMPHOEDEMA

Below is a 5 minute video demonstrating self-lymphatic massage for single leg lymphoedema. The sequence should take you about 20 minutes if performed with all the suggested repetitions. Self-treatment twice daily is recommended. In addition, please continue with a regular exercise routine that moves your swollen leg to further improve its lymphatic function. Exercising with your medical compression hosiery on is beneficial. For bi-lateral leg lymphoedema - repeat the demonstrated sequence on the other side.


MOBILITY EXERCISES FOR YOUR SHOULDERS

Below is a 7 minute video demonstrating mobility exercises for your shoulders. They are done with a broomstick, and are good for a variety of shoulder issues including lymphoedema, muscle injuries & frozen shoulder. Stretch slowly as far as is comfortable and hold, then release. All exercises with the broomstick are held for 5 seconds and repeated 10 times. Exercises with no stick, hold for 15 seconds and repeat 3 times.
